Monsoon Season Strikes With Vengeance

UPDATED: 8:14 am MDT July 13, 2004

Monsoon season is under way in New Mexico.

Several areas in the Duke City were pounded Monday.

But with the much-needed moisture comes danger. Rushing waters flooded Albuquerque's arroyos. And the rain causes traffic problems as well.

Firefighters warned residents to stay away from arroyos whenever dark clouds loom overhead. They said the best thing to do if you are caught in an arroyo during a flood is to lie on your back and float with the stream until help arrives.

Firefighters also wanted to warn residents that it only takes a few inches of water to move a car across a road.
